As I have mentioned many times before, I enjoy traveling and exploring a place in summer more than in any other season. It’s easier to fell in love with a place when the sun is shining, and the weather is pleasant. Also, it’s easier to pack and plan such a trip when you don’t need to carry a lot of clothes and just-in-case-it’s-cold pieces. Unfortunately, not all summer days are nice and sunny. On our recent weekend trip to Prague, the weather did not cooperate. We were expecting beautiful, stable, hot summer days but got half a day of cloudy and full day of rainy weather.
So, we changed our plans a little, and instead of spending hours walking outside, taking beautiful pictures and catching some sun rays, we explored Prague from one café to another, enjoying great coffee, decadent cakes, healthy salads and vegetarian meals, homemade lemonades, etc. Even though our trip didn’t go as planned, we enjoyed every bite of it 😉
In case you plan to visit Prague in the near future, mark these spots. We loved the food and drinks we tried and shelter they provided. And even if the weather on your trip is impeccable, it’s good to know the best places to recharge and fill-up the energy 😉
This design store and bistro are located right next to the Václavské náměstí. The bistro is stylish and bohemian, serves a seasonal menu with original cakes, and sells beautiful design items. They respect and highlight the history of the house where the bistro is located, and are not afraid to combine unusual ingredients in their cakes. This café reminded me of some of the cafés I frequent here in Brussels.
This vegetarian restaurant was near our hotel, and it was love at first bite. You better make a reservation through their website, because the place is quite small and very popular. The menu is intriguing, and I would say you cannot go wrong. The portions seem small, but don’t get tricked. The taste of the food is full and intense. We enjoyed every bite and were full for hours afterward.
Bistro Zahrada is an organic shop and bistro. We had delicious pancakes with cream and raspberries for breakfast here one morning. They have a nice garden in the back, with umbrellas, mismatched chairs and tables and lots of trees to provide shade on a sunny day.

This hipster café with a funny name is located near a shopping center Nový Smíchov. If you find yourself in the neighborhood, get a coffee and some delicacy here instead of in some coffee chain. The café is located in an old carpentry shop and has a big yard. Their menu offers traditional snacks and cakes with a modern twist and classic snack from which vegetarians and vegans can easily choose. On a rainy day, the atmosphere here was a bit melancholic but filled with soft discussions and quiet typing of people who came to work here.
Mistral Café is a modern café with a nice interior, good service and a satisfying menu with small plates but also full meals. We had lunch here one day and tried their pea soup, avocado sandwich, and salads. Yum! I liked the calm atmosphere of the place and would come back for a cup of coffee and cake anytime.
How do you handle not-so-good weather on a city trip? Do you have different plans and strategies for summer and winter travel?
